Join our training this September!
The goal of our Bird Science Program is to bring engaging bird science lessons to students in Title I elementary schools from TK to 5th grade in the Pasadena Unified School District. We combine hands-on activities, field trips, and Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) to excite students about birds and to foster environmental stewardship.
We are seeking enthusiastic volunteers to help guide students during classes and field trips.
No prior experience is needed! This training will prepare you to support the program along with our Director and Assistant Directors. If you enjoy working with children, being outdoors, and learning about birds, this opportunity is for you!
Training Details:
Schedule: Thursdays on 9/5, 9/12, 9/19, 9/26 from 9:00 am to 12:30 pm
Location: Eaton Canyon Nature Center, 1750 N Altadena Dr, Pasadena, CA 91107
We strongly encourage attending all sessions for successful training.
Requirements:
Completion of a TB test after training begins (free test available for PUSD volunteers).
Legal eligibility to work with children.
What to Expect From the Training:
Learn to effectively interact with children.
Understand the curriculum and activities for classes and field trips.
Gain knowledge in basic bird science.
Get hands-on experience in environmental education.
All materials will be provided at the training.
What to Expect After the Training:
Upon successfully completing the training, docents will receive updates on upcoming Bird Science Program classes and field trips. Docents are essential to the success of our program and are encouraged to assist with classes and field trips whenever possible.
Classes: Typically scheduled on Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday early mornings within Pasadena.
Field Trips: Scheduled on weekday mornings in the Greater Pasadena area (i.e. Audubon Center at Debs Park, Eaton Canyon, and Peck Road Water Conservation Park).
